We have teamed up with the Big Life Foundation who are protecting over 1.6 million acres of wilderness in the Amboseli-Tsavo-Kilimanjaro ecosystem. Big Life partners with local communities to protect nature for the benefit of all.
"This was probably our 10th time at Bush Camp and we were reminded why we love it so much. The staff is fantastic. The accommodations are exquisite and the views of Mount Kilimanjaro and the wildlife are simply stunning."
There is nowhere more charming, comfortable or hospitable as the Amboseli Bush Camp. We saw elephants and other animals at the waterhole every day from the comfort of our breakfast table. The furniture and tents make it feel like home, and the camp is just 15 minutes drive from the park. JD, Alex and the crew made sure that every question was answered. We felt well cared for and grateful for this time at the camp

This camp is amazing, just a piece of heaven. we saw elephants group at the water hole at our arrival to welcome us :-) we saw zebras too. The experience can’t be described by words, it’s so different from the city life where we are living. We will recommend to friends to come at a dryer season if possible.

We had the most amazing stay at Upper Camp. John was super welcoming and proactive in communication when we arrived in Kimana all throughout our stay. The area as well as the rooms and amenities are equipped exactly as described and everything looks even more beautiful in real life. The kitchen is fully equipped, one thing to note here is that is super important to buy enough food before you come here since the camp is quite remote (15-20 min drive from the next town Kimana). The water hole is in a perfect location so can watch wildlife from the lounge area and the tents. It can be lit up at night so that we managed to spot animals even when it was dark. At night, we also heard lions and hyenas, an incredible experience! If you have time we recommend the walking tour by Dixon and Samuel who know a lot about the surroundings and are eager to explain about their Masai culture on the way. Overall we had the most perfect stay and will definitely return. Thanks John!!!…

Amboseli Bush Camp is nestled in a stunning location with a view of the majestic Mount Kilimanjaro and offers a perfect balance of comfort and immersion in the wild. One of the highlights is the watering hole right in front of the camp. It attracts a variety of wildlife, and during our stay, we were treated to sightings of giraffes, zebras, ostriches, and even hyenas coming to drink. The ever-changing landscape of wildlife right outside the camp was a truly magical experience. The staff at Amboseli Bush Camp truly make this place stand out. Alex and his team prepared delicious pizzas in the outdoor oven for us - a unique and fun experience. Samuel, one of the staff members, joined us for a morning jog through the bush. It was a wonderful way to connect with the environment and experience the landscape up close. We highly recommend Amboseli Bush Camp for anyone seeking an authentic yet comfortable African adventure!

Bush camp is a great place to stay when you want a clean, freindly and basic place and willing to deal with the food yourself . The road to the camp is great, out of the park, the place is suitable for people who love nature and not looking for luxury hotel with all the facilities . We recommend the place to others .Amboseli Bush Camp - Upper Camp

JD and Aileen were extremely great hosts and our stay at their camp absolutely wonderful! JD picked us up from the train station in Emali (we took the SGR from Mombasa) and took us to the camp (aprox. two hours by car), which is in a stunning location just outside the Amboseli main gate. On the way, we stopped at a local grocery store to get everything for our stay (self catering, in a beautiful kitchen that's just been built). After we arrived, their staff took us on a magical evening bush walk around the camp, with many animals and a stunning view of Mount Kilimanjaro at sunset. One of the highlights in the camp is the 'living room' - a beautiful open hang out area, overlooking a watering hole that attracts many different animals over the day. Other highlights included: pizza night around the bonfire, waking up to see Kilimanjaro from our tent at sunrise, a safari in Amboseli park, a visit to one of the staff member's local Maasai village and a wonderful dinner together with friends.Amboseli Bush Camp - Upper Camp

Another wonderful stay at Amboseli Bush Camp. Saw elephants, giraffes, zebra, ostriches, water buffalo, and impala, all from the watering hole in the camp. Very cozy and well located camp, with a beautiful lounge area and well-designed luxury tents. The team is friendly and the pizzas are perfect. We also took a walking tour with one of the Massai guides. It's great to have the camp to ourselves. We had a fabulous stay at the Bush Camp! My main comment is that the listing doesn't really do it justice and I needed to ask questions in advance to plan. When it was re-listed with a new host this past year, details were left out and helpful reviews lost, and the camp is much better than anticipated. E.g. it would be helpful to know there's a fridge/freezer and gas stove, each tent has its own bathroom with cold showers but there is also a separate hot shower nearby, the camp has a safari vehicle (pop-top land cruiser) and a driver/guide for $150 USD/day, bush walks are available with two Maasai staff for 4000 KES/group (saw hyena, zebras, gerenuk, etc), and staff will make good pizzas if you bring ingredients (they wanted more flour than anticipated - bring 1KG to be safe), etc. We loved the lounge/dining area overlooking the water hole where we saw an elephant, hyenas, giraffes, zebra, impala, dik-diks, etc. This is a special place and highly recommended!Amboseli Bush Camp - Upper Camp

We are a frequent visitor to this Bush Camp because we love how chill and beautiful it is. Not a whole lot of animals at the watering hole this time but JD did drive us up to a beautiful lookout for a sunset view. My mom who was visiting the place for the first time loved the pizzas. Always a winner. We have already booked our next visit here in January.Amboseli Bush Camp - Lower Camp

Our third stay at the Bush Camp and it's our favorite place for a peaceful, comfortable place to stay with the beauty of the landscape and wildlife on your doorstep. JD has taken great pride in maintaining the essential nature of this beautiful camp and ugrading where necessary. The Masai team are friendly and attentive and very happy to share their culture and traditions, the traditional Masai pizzas are as good as ever! Reluctantly highly recommend, would rather keep this magical place a secret.Amboseli Bush Camp - Lower Camp

We loved the lower bush camp. It is the perfect stay for visiting ambroseli. We did not expect the camp to be so spacious. It had three tents/rooms, kitchen area and another living/dining are. The staff were great and really know how to make pizza. They also help clean up the dishes after your meal. The local masai guide and his accompanying tracker who took us on a bush walk were very knowledgable. Having stayed one night in the lower camp and another in the upper camp (both rented exclusively by our group four) I can say that both are great. The main difference between the two is the following: - the size of the tents (lower camp has normal size tents, upper camp has two massive tents with a outside lounge area); - availability of hot water (lower camp has cold water showers in the rooms and hot water only in a separate shower bungalow; upper camp has hot water in every tent); - living area in lower camp faces sunset, whereas upper camp it faces Kilimanjaro. Highly recommended.Amboseli Bush Camp - Lower Camp

We had an amazing stay at the bush camp with friends visiting from Norway! The staff were super welcoming, Godfried made really good pizzas in wood fired ovens. We went on a scenic bush walk with Samuel. The tents were nice, the common area and viewing place just fantastic. We saw giraffes drinking water from the waterhole. John and his wife were so kind to take us to sunset hill for sundowners! Thank you, truly special.Amboseli Bush Camp - Upper Camp

We stayed one night at the upper camp and one night at the lower camp. We absolutely loved the upper camp, with the view of the Kilimanjaro, large and beautifully furnished tents with enormous bathrooms with hot water. The lower camp is also very pleasant, although the tent are smaller and there isn't hot water in the tents' bathrooms. The kitchen at the lower camp is very well designed and the sunset from the lounge is breathtaking. My only suggestion is to place the dining table next to the kitchen rather than in the lounge.Amboseli Bush Camp - Lower Camp

This was our 6th visit to Amboseli Bush Camp (upper and lower) and I was so impressed with all of the upgrades to the lower camp that JD is making. The new tents in the upper camp are pristine and beautiful. The camp is always a very special and relaxing treasure with the abundant game activity at both water holes and incredible views of Mt. Kilimanjaro and the surrounding landscape.
